CHAPTER-8

PIOUS NECTOR OF AYURVEDA

AYURVEDIC CONCEPT, HOW COMPLICATIONS ARISE :

  • COMPLICATIONS OF DIABETES
  • UPDRAVYA OF MADHUMEHA

In Ayurveda steps of samprapti (prognosis of DIABETES) can be summarized in the following steps

Nidanas (causative factors, reasons ) > Dosha dushti (aggravation of doshas)> kapha and pitta > Reaches medas (natural tendency) > Meda vilayana (liquification of fatty tissue) due to Pitta Dosha > Kleda vruddhi (increased fluid level in the body) > Kleda comes to basti (urinary system) – creates load on urinary bladder > Gradually involves all dhatus (Mamsa, Majja etc.) > leads to Dhatu shaithilya > Involvement of other doshas > Increase in vatta dosha > leads to various types of Prameha.
And if the problems are not taken care of and the precautions are not taken care of, the COMPLICATIONS ARISE ....

We know VAT, PITTA, KAPHA the three energies in Ayurveda , Responsible for every action.

DUE TO KAPH VARDHAK AHAR VIHAR

Kapha vitiates Medas (fat tissue), Mamsa (muscle tissue) and Kleda (liquid elements) of the body located in Basti (urinary Bladder) and causes different types of meha.if left untreated the increase in Kapha dosh leads to obesity, Causing Atherosclerosis resulting in poor blood supply to Vital organs, like Lungs causing dyspnoea and recurrenet Cough ,which is not easy to control and treat .Due to lack of blood and Nervous supply flexibility of Lungs gets affected causing the hardening of Lungs and affecting it expansion.

DUE TO INCREASE IN PITTA DOSHA

Pitta aggravated by hot things, Pitta causes burning sensation leading to heart burn and hypertension. Hridroga (cardiac disorder) Pitta when combines with vata dosha, hardening of vessels occurs which leads to poor supply to other organs and hardening of heart tissue muscles itself, flexibility of nerves and vessels gets reduced .Causing Heart diseases as the heart is incapable of functioning properly so lack of nutrition and blood to other organs , affectiong purification of blood , the toxic substances which are to be cleansed could not be completed .The liver can not perform its function easily so the toxins start circulating in body causing skin infections and formation of ulcers.

Loulya (urge to have food) : increased pitta leads to increased fire or juices for digestions, increased appetite causes overloading in stomach causing hyperacidity , leading to disturbed digestion, thus Udavarta (regurgitation).

And consequently constipation as increased vata causes obstruction of channels (strotas).

DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

DREADFUL THAN DIABETES (NEURO – NERVES, PATHY –SUFFERING)

Diabetic Neuropathy Nerve damage : Excess Levels of blood sugar can injure the walls of the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) that nourish your nerves, especially in your legs. This can cause tingling, numbness, burning or pain that usually begins at the tips of the toes or fingers and gradually spreads upward. Left untreated, you could lose all sense of feeling in the affected limbs.

Damage to the nerves related to digestion can cause problems with nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation. For men, it may lead to erectile dysfunction.
Alzheimer's disease : Type 2 diabetes may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease due to affected nervous supply. The poorer your blood sugar control, the greater the risk appears to be.

Foot damage : Nerve damage in the feet or poor blood flow to the feet increases the risk of various foot complications. The muscles of the feet get atrophied or dried , causing shrinking of muscles and causing deformity in feet .If Left untreated, cuts and blisters can develop serious infections, which often heal poorly. These infections may ultimately require toe, foot or leg amputation.

Kidney damage (Nephropathy) : The kidneys contain millions of tiny blood vessel clusters (glomeruli) that filter waste from your blood. The meda or fat cells can cause clogging in the glomeruli causing disturbance of its functions of filteration thus start accumulationg in the body as can not be filtered, leading to accumulation of fluid in the kidneys and thus Diabetes can damage this delicate filtering system. Severe damage can lead to kidney failure or irreversible end-stage kidney disease, which may require dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Eye damage (retinopathy) : Diabetes can damage the blood vessels and nerves of the retina (diabetic retinopathy), potentially leading to blindness. Diabetes also increases the risk of other serious vision conditions, such as cataracts and glaucoma.

Hearing impairment : Hearing problems are more common in people due to affected nervous supply with diabetes.

In ayurveda Anidra (loss of sleep) 4. Stambha (stiffness of the body) 5. Kampa (shivering) 6. Shoola (body ache) Baddha purishata (constipation) are other symptoms due to Vata Avarana, that is the core concept for all these diseases.

Let us understand NEUROPATHY Better.

In Ayurvedic classics symptoms like Suptata (Numbness) and Daha (burning sensation) in body parts especially in hands and feet are described as Purvarupa of Prameha.

These are very common features of diabetic neuropathy. Daha (Pitta) is also described among the Upadravas (complications) of Prameha.

Body has its broadband likes network. Networking of the human body is done by the neurons. Neurons are cells, which carry information- sensation and orders to and fro between body and central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). When something goes wrong with these nerves, medical term for this is Neuropathy. Approach of Ayurvedic Treatment of Neuropathy is according to the Vata disorder.

According to Ayurvedic principles, there is involvement of Vata and Pitta Dosha in diabetic neuropathy. Increased Vata causes the tingling sensations and Numbness and affects the movements of neurons as Vat is the Dosha responsible for every movement in body, can read in detail at Pious Nector of Ayurveda at www.piousayurveda, ebook. Nerves are wires. Just like wires nerves have insulation. This insulation controls fluctuation of nerves. Fat (Medha dhatu )insulates nerves. When this layer of fat (Medh dhatu) is damaged or irritated it causes neuropathy. Neuropathy may occur because of neural synapses also that are the links between two nerves. All these movements of senses occur in form of electrical impulses.

Amazingly, aggravation or under performance of vata depends on fats as per Ayurveda.Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that can occur if you have diabetes.

Pitta Dosha is for the transformation of energy that is for the asssimilation of foods and taking nutrients out of it for nourishing all Dhatus (from Rasa to Rakta, Maans, Meda, Asthi, Majja, Shukra)and the last OJUS of the body.

The person who is Diabetic, his Central Nervous System gets affected due to Increased Vat, Brain lacks proper nutrition needed and oxygen levels and thus inhibiting its Funtions of the release of healthy harmones and hindering actions associated with the Nervous System. So treatment should Involve the VAT SHAMAK DRAVYA MAINLY (vata Pacifying Medicines).
SEE THE APPARENT AFFECTS OF VATA ON NERVES , IT HAS SHRUNKEN UP

Image

In Diabetic Neuropathy, increased sugar levels damages the Nerves running throughout the body, and most often it damages nerves in your legs and feet . Increased vatta also causes stiffness in body leading to restriction of movements in body ,causing cracks in skins and neuroasthenia and muscular dystrophy etc.

APPARENT CHANGES IN THE MUSCLES OF THE FOOT.

A sense of weakness in your hand occurs and a tendency to drop things is there.
Increased pitta causes the ulcer formations and blood infections causings skin eruptions.
7 types of Carbuncles of patients suffering from Prameha (Rogadhikara) are to be treated by expert surgeons with the help of Sastras (surgical operations.), samsodhaka (cleansing) and Ropana (healing) therapies.
Increased kapha dosha causes obesity and Dyspnoea, constipation and obesity, leading to lot of other complications.

BRAIN OF ALZHEIMER PATIENT ROLE OF VATA QUITE EVIDENT

SEEK MEDICAL CARE IF YOU NOTICE :

A cut or sore on your foot that doesn't seem to be healing, is infected or is getting worse. Burning, tingling, weakness or pain in your hands or feet that interferes with your daily routine or your sleep, Dizziness.

Changes in your digestion, urination or sexual function.

Numbness or tingling in your fingers or hand, especially in your thumb, index finger.

These signs and symptoms don't always indicate nerve damage, but they may signal other problems that require medical care. Early diagnosis and treatment offer the best chance for controlling symptoms and preventing more-severe problems.

Even minor sores on the feet that don't heal can turn into ulcers. In the most severe cases, untreated foot ulcers may become gangrenous — a condition in which the tissue dies — and require surgery or even amputation of your foot. Early treatment can help prevent this from happening.

Some times patient even do not even get to know that his feet have some wound or are having any ulcer, their problem get worsened with time and they have to undergo unnecessary surgeries.

Take good care of yourself.

Stay healthy stay happy
